Pollution and exhausts

Notwithstanding the many benefits of internal combustion, there is a serious downside- pollution.We can no longer ignore this problem as it is destroying the planet and ourselves.Reducing pollution is an imperative.

Carbon Dioxide CO2

In the last ten years, 50% of the greenhouse gases have been CO2 .Improving combustion slightly increases the amount of CO2 produced; nonetheless, by greatly increasing fuel efficiency the end product is that there is a reduction of CO2 on average of 14%.

Carbon MonoxideCO

Carbon Monoxide is the most dangerous gas produces in the burning of fossil fuels.CO is a colourless & odourless gas, which is heavier than air.Co is the result of incomplete combustion.It weakens the blood flow, perception and mental activities, slows the reflexes and hits the nervous and cardio vascular systems.A high concentration of CO causes the formation of other gasses like methane.

Vehicles are responsible for more than 80% of the CO emissions and in some cities, during rush hour, the maximum tolerance level of CO established by the World Health Organization is surpassed by 700%.In the UK, it is estimated that 10,000 deaths per year are caused by exhaust.The French government has recently admitted that 350 Parisians per year and thousands of inhabitants from the provinces have died from pollution caused by motor vehicles.In Athens, in only 1 day in 1996, thousands of people went to the hospital as a result of pollution. 230 died.

Nitrogen Oxygen NOX
